For the Citizens of UK holding the UK passport:

Japan visa is not required for any UK or Irish citizens, if they want to stay for the tenure maximum of 90 days, for the general purpose of tourism or friends visit.

This is not applicable for the other nationalities that are staying in UK for some purpose.  

For residents of UK i.e. not holding the UK passport:-

Documents you need to send us:

Japan Tourist Visa:

•    Passport: With a validity of at least 3 months from the date of planned journey.
•    Photograph: Colored photograph on the white background. It should be recent photograph.
•    Application Form: Fully filled up and signed.
•    Residential status: The residential status of the individual in /uk whether living on employment visa, student visa etc. with the relevant supported with the relevant documents of proof.
•    Employment status: Especially for students the leave certificate from their respective universities.
•    Journey Details: Details of confirmation of inward and outward journey reservation.
•    Accommodation details: The details of stay in hotel during the visit with confirmed reservation (if not visiting a relative or friend).
•    Bank statement: The bank statement of last 3 months of the applicant.

Japan Business Visa:

•    Passport: With a validity of at least 3 months from the date of planned journey.
•    Photograph: Colored photograph on the white background. It should be recent photograph.
•    Application Form: Fully filled up and signed.
•    Residential status: The residential status of the individual in /uk whether living on employment visa, student visa etc. with the relevant supported with the relevant documents of proof.
•    Employment status: Especially for students the leave certificate from their respective universities.
•    Letter of Invitation: A letter of invitation by the business organization.
•    Journey Details: Details of confirmation of inward and outward journey reservation.
•    Accommodation details: The details of stay in hotel during the visit with confirmed reservation (if not visiting a relative or friend).

Note: -
- The applicants have to submit the purpose of visit in written. A letter or application could be written and submitted by addressing the Japanese Embassy.
- Certain countries passport holders does not require the visa.
- The change in rules for application of visa can be different for every country.
